We had a lovely and very open chat with Patricia Poole about her life and her guide dogs. It is fair to say that from the moment we started to chat, the impact guide dogs have had and how they gave Patricia her life back was clear.
Patricia now gives back to Guide Dogs by carrying out talks for schools, clubs, organisations and can often be found at fetes, dog shows and more; not only fund raising but chatting about her story and how guide dogs transform life’s.
Over the years Guide Dogs have developed a wide range of services with and without dogs to support people living with a vision impairment. Children and adults. Friends and family. Whoever you are, their expert staff, dedicated volunteers and life-changing dogs are here to help you live actively, independently, and well.
The Guide Dogs story started in 1931 with two amazing British pioneers, Muriel Crooke and Rosamund Bond. These remarkable women organised the training of the first four British guide dogs from a humble lock up garage in Wallasey, Merseyside.
Guide Dogs has come a very long way since those early days. Today Guide Dogs is the world’s largest breeder and trainer of working dogs. And thanks to our dedicated staff and volunteers – and your vital donations – 36,000 lives have been transformed through a guide dog partnership since 1931.
We loved this chat as it was a very personal account of how Patricia came to terms with a very sudden change in her life.
