We had a lovely chat with Jack Fenton the Dorset Dog Trainer about how he uses nosework in his everyday training with dogs.
Jack works with a lot of reactive, fizzy, fearful, anxious dogs and uses nosework in their training to help them see the world differently. The world is quite a scary place for some dogs and by tapping into that amazing nose of theirs, Jack has helped these dogs and their care givers feel a whole lot better about the world they live in. Jack can often be found training dogs in environments that would not seem possible to the dogs humans but with the right guidance and taking it at the dogs pace it can be done.
Jack started his training journey training assistance dogs and this has helped him understand not just the needs of the dog but the human’s needs at the end of the lead as well.
It was a real pleasure chatting with Jack as we share a passion for all things scent based for dogs, tracking, trailing and scentwork as we both see the difference it can make to the dogs in our care. Hope you enjoy the podcast as much as we did recording it.
