Life Skills Classes for Dogs in Kent

Helping Dogs and Their Humans Navigate Real Life With Confidence.

Next course begins on the 7th November 2026 at 12.00.

Life with dogs can be brilliant, frustrating, rewarding and occasionally a little chaotic.

One day your dog comes back the moment you call. The next day they’ve discovered a particularly interesting smell and appear to have forgotten their own name.

At SkellyWAGS Dog Training, we understand that real life isn’t perfect. That’s why our Life Skills classes focus on practical, everyday training that helps dogs and their guardians build confidence, connection and understanding together.

Whether you’re struggling with recall, lead walking, distractions or simply want to strengthen your relationship with your dog, our Life Skills classes provide a supportive and enjoyable environment where both ends of the lead can learn.

Located in Old Romney, Kent, our classes are designed to help dogs develop the skills they need to thrive in the real world.

Does This Sound Familiar?

  • Your dog listens beautifully at home but seems to forget everything outside.
  • Walks feel more like waterskiing than walking.
  • Recall works perfectly… until something more exciting appears.
  • Your dog becomes distracted by other dogs, people or wildlife.
  • You’d like a calmer, more connected relationship with your dog.
  • You’re looking for kind, ethical training that makes sense.

If any of those sound familiar, you’re certainly not alone.

Many of the dogs that join our Life Skills classes arrive with exactly the same challenges.

What Are Life Skills Classes?

Our Life Skills classes focus on practical behaviours that help dogs and guardians enjoy everyday life together.

Rather than teaching dogs to perform for the sake of it, we focus on skills that are genuinely useful in the real world.

Depending on the needs of the group, topics may include:

  • Recall
  • Loose lead walking
  • Focus and engagement
  • Settling and relaxation
  • Calmness around distractions
  • Confidence building
  • Handling skills
  • Everyday manners
  • Relationship building

Every class is designed to be supportive, enjoyable and achievable.

Why Train With SkellyWAGS?

There are plenty of dog training classes available.

What makes SkellyWAGS different is our focus on the individual dog.

We don’t believe dogs are robots.

We don’t expect every dog to learn in exactly the same way.

We understand that every dog arrives with their own personality, experiences, strengths and challenges.

Our aim is to help each dog become the best version of themselves while giving guardians the confidence and understanding they need to support their dog outside of class.

Training should feel rewarding, not intimidating.

Progress matters far more than perfection.

  • Outdoor learning areas
  • Purpose-built training spaces

Who Are These Classes For?

Our Life Skills classes are suitable for:

  • Adolescent dogs
  • Rescue dogs
  • Newly rehomed dogs
  • Dogs needing better recall
  • Dogs that pull on the lead
  • Dogs that struggle with focus
  • Guardians looking to build confidence
  • Anyone wanting a stronger relationship with their dog

No dog needs to be perfect before joining.

In fact, that’s exactly why many people come.

It Isn’t About Having the Perfect Dog

Social media can sometimes make it look as though everyone else has a perfectly behaved dog.

The reality is often very different.

Dogs get distracted.

Dogs make mistakes.

Humans make mistakes too.

At SkellyWAGS, we’re not interested in creating robots.

We’re interested in helping dogs and humans learn together, build trust and develop skills that make everyday life more enjoyable.

We celebrate progress, not perfection.

Frequently Asked Questions

How old does my dog need to be?

Life Skills classes are generally suitable for dogs over six months of age. If you’re unsure, please get in touch and we’ll help you find the most appropriate option.

Need help with recall

Recall is one of the most common skills we work on in both our Life Skills classes and 1-1 training sessions. Whether you have a distracted adolescent, a scent-driven explorer, or a dog who suddenly develops selective hearing, we’d be happy to help.

Do I need previous training experience?

Not at all. Many guardians join us with little or no previous training experience.

Are the classes suitable for nervous dogs?

In many cases, yes. We always aim to create a supportive environment and can advise whether a group class or 1-2-1 training would be the best starting point.

What training methods do you use?

We use positive reinforcement methods and focus on building confidence, understanding and trust.

What if my dog struggles around distractions?

That’s one of the reasons many people join. We work at your dog’s pace and help build the skills needed for real-life situations.
