What we did last week!

With so much going on weekly we thought it would be a good idea to start a weekly post to keep everyone updated….yes we will post some photos on social media as we did say we would try harder!

So 1-2-1 sessions last week we worked on lots of different things with our clients ranging from improving Recall, how to Settle around visitors, loose lead walking, scentwork and so much more. People often think that 1-2-1 sessions are just for dogs that are reactive and that is so far from the truth. Some of our clients just prefer to train alone, some dogs concentrate better whilst learning in their home environment, there are so many reasons that 1-2-1 training may be a better fit for the dogs and humans.

We had a wonderful beginners scent workshop in East Studdal on Saturday and it was not just the sun that shone. The dogs that attended are all at the start of their journey and it was amazing to watch them progress during the workshop….oh the head flicks when they find that scent still after all these years of teaching brings us so much joy. The sun was shining, the dogs absolutely shone and the beaming smiles on their humans face’s said it all.

Staying with scent it was the last session for those on the 5 week beginners scentwork course at Waggy Tails Field, Romney Marsh. The dogs have been amazing over the last 5 weeks and grown in confidence and their ability to locate the hidden scent. Over the 5 weeks we have introduced them to the amazing world of scent, we have done bags searches, vehicle searches, line ups, novel environments and so much more and each time the dogs and their humans smashed it and all with a wagging tail and smiling face…tail for the dogs and face for the humans!

On Sunday it was week 2 of our 5 week themed scentwork course The Bank Heist. We can not say to much about this right now as the Dover scent crew have their week 1 session tonight, however it is fair to say a lot of fun is had and the story lines get a little crazier each week. We will be doing a post regards this course as it not what you may expect of a dog training class.

Away from scent we also ran our popular Pattern Games workshop on Saturday and what an absolute joy it was to watch the dogs engage with their humans whilst working in close proximity to the other dogs on the workshop. As always this is taken at the dogs pace and distance they can work at but with working through the Pattern Games it gives our dogs a very predictable outcome that they can work with and of course that predictable outcome is something they like, that can be food, affection, toys or even just more distance. This is a course that benefits all dogs from the over zealous greeters, those that do not engage with their human when out and about, those who may find some situations scary and so much more…Pattern Games is for every dog.

Caniross and Canitalk hit the trails as always and we are feeling blessed that although the temperature is rising it is still nice and cool when we do our classes first thing in the morning. If you follow our page you will know that canicross and canitalk at Skellywags is all about the time spent with your dog and working on the bond you have together and working as a team and that becomes even more important as the weather starts to warm up. Canicross is becoming very popular and that is great but it really is important to do it right and remember it is a partnership and not about the dogs doing all the work or to be used as an exercise to just try and tire your dog out. If you want to know more then feel free to contact us.

We also have something very new coming to SkellyWags soon and Bert as usual was happy to be our test dog. It has been something we have been working on and are almost ready to go live with. We really do think it is an exciting and fun new addition to the services we already offer here at SkellyWags Dog Training.

We could go on but hopefully that gives you a little tasty of what our week looked like at SkellyWags. If you would like to know about what is happening soon here are a few things already planned and also if you want to ask anything please feel free to contact us.
