It has been a busy start for sure!
2025 is our year of Scent and we have certainly kicked that off in style with our scentwork events so far with, The Skellywags Express held at Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway, Lyddy of the Lake at Action Watersports and now The Bank Heist at our very own Waggy Tails Field in Old Romney and Dover.
As you know we are very passionate about our scentwork and the benefits that it has for our dogs and how it is such a huge part of their wellbeing. But it has not all been scentwork this year.
As well as our regular scentwork classes we have had our regular weekly canicross and canitalk sessions, puppy courses, introduced our new Pattern Games courses and workshops, Rally courses, 1-2-1’s and even squeezed in some fun Gun Dog sessions as well. This is why we often do not post as much as we should but we are out there training and there really are only so many hours in the week and social media stars we are not! Social media is it seems such a big driver behind small businesses and yes we do keep saying we will do more of it but as the school reports used to say…we must try harder! We also do not post much about our 1-2-1 sessions as often the client has reached out for help and the last thing we think to do is start videoing or taking photos to increase our social media profile, it is not about us it is about the dog and the client.
Away from the actual training we have also been very busy with our plans for Waggy Tails field. Alongside all the usual maintenance and refreshing of bark for our meadow pathways we have also dug out a splash zone for the dogs in the training field. We plan to use this as a fun splash zone for the dogs who love water but we can also use it to help those dogs that may be a bit nervous of water. Bert is very happy with the new water feature! Oh and if that was not enough we now have a full time search vehicle at the field for scentwork, teaching dogs to use ramps/steps and also help those dogs who have a fear of cars.
So what is coming next at Skellywags along with all the usual stuff? We have Hoopers beginning again in April and are trying to find space for another workshop as our first 2 sold out very quickly, we have Rally and Pattern Games, Puppy courses, Lifeskills, beginners scentwork, Scent workshop in Dover and more. It will all be on our What’s On page.
As for the rest of the year, well there will be lots more scentwork events as you would expect, Skelly-WagFEST returns after its amazing start in 2024, a return to podcasting, webinars and more workshops and all the usual stuff that we do. Oh and even book number 2 has been started after my first attempt with It’s All About the Dogs last year. I may not be winning any awards for my writing but I found the whole process very enjoyable and hopefully it offers a little insight into my world with dogs.
We will try and post more photos of the gorgeous dogs that come into our care but if you follows us you will know that is never our top priority, the dogs and you are, but we will try.
We are really looking forward to the rest of 2025 and meeting new dogs and humans and working alongside all our regulars.
